Understanding Energy And How It Affects Your Life

Everything in the world is energy and energy can have an impact on per perception and our physical and even emotional well being.

Energy can be loosely categorized into two groups - Catabolic and Anabolic

Catabolic vs Anabolic Energy

You’re probably very familiar with catabolic energy and don’t even know it.

Have you ever met someone around you (like your family member, friend, teammate at work) who is always in a bad mood and creates tension wherever they go? That’s catabolic energy in a nutshell. Anytime you feel frustrated, worry or guilt, that too is catabolic energy at work.

Cataboli energy is the energy of worry, frustration, and blame. If left to simmer unchecked, it is usually destructive and can create a depressing, toxic environment for everyone around.

In contrast, anabolic energy is constructive and fuels creativity. If you have met great leaders who have the ability to motivate and inspire others to do extraordinary things, influence positive outcomes, and create incredible change within every area of their life, you are looking at anabolic energy at work.

Energy levels at a glance

Within these two categories, energy can be further categorized into 7 different levels.

The energy we are resonating at will influence how we act because it will essentially form the “lens” through which we perceive the world. This greatly affects the experience we have.

For example; a friend of mine had received a call recently about the possible closure of the company he is working for due to the impact of COVID 19 on their industry. If he were resonating at a catabolic, lower energy level, he will likely be worried about his future and feel insecure about his finances. He was however resonating at a higher energy level when he received the call and saw it as a great chance to move out into something better for a upward shift in his career.

There are seven different energy “levels” we can use to describe the types of energy a person experiences and expresses.

With reference to the chart below, here are the 7 levels and its related Core Thoughts, Core Feelings and Core Actions.

7 Levels Of Energy

Let's take some time to look at the 7 levels of energy and explore how it can manifest itself in life.

The Scenerio:

You are recently out of job due to COVID and your elderly mother is chronically ill and immobile. You and your family will have to put in time and effort to take care of your mother and will have to invest money which you are not sure you have to buy equipment and medication to care for her.

Level 1: Lack of choice. Victim energy. I can’t. I have to. Fearful.

>> What you are likely to be thinking/feeling/ doing
“I am so overwhelmed. I don't think I can handle this and don't think I have enough resources to handle this.”

Level 2: Anger. Combativeness. Resisting or fighting energy.

>> What you are likely to be thinking/feeling/ doing
“I am so sick of my family demanding that I chip in for this, don't they know I have so much worries? I am going to tell them off because I am so MAD.”

Level 3: Rationalizing. Fine.

>> What you are likely to be thinking/feeling/ doing
“It's my mother we are talking about. I can't possibly not help out. I guess I can just learn to deal with it and focus on finding a job later when my mother is feeling better.”

Level 4: Care. Compassion. Service to others.

>> What you are likely to be thinking/feeling/ doing
“It's my mother we are talking about! I love her to the moon and back will most certainly do my best to care for her in whatever way I can! ”

Level 5: Reconciliation. Win-win. There’s no good or bad or right or wrong. Where is the opportunity here?

>> What you are likely to be thinking/feeling/ doing
“Well, I guess this is a great chance for me to spend some quality time with my mother and create a more bonded relationship. Perhaps in learning to care for her, I could venture out later into working as medical assistant, which is a job that is great in demand right now."

Level 6: Intuition. Creative genius. The space of brilliant visionaries.

>> What you are likely to be thinking/feeling/ doing
“Everything has a value and purpose. This too shall pass and I am sure I will understand why life planned this out for me at a later stage in life."

Level 7: Complete passion for all aspects of life. Oneness.

>> What you are likely to be thinking/feeling/ doing
“I feel complete passion and joy.. even in this, and all situations.”

Good Vs Bad Energy Levels

While you might notice that level 1 and 2 are largely catabolic and probably won’t bring about the greatest results, there’s no "good" or "bad" energy per se.

Each type of energy has inherent advantages and disadvantages and can be consciously used to reach specific goals. It’s also normal for us to cycle up and down the spectrum… we rarely hang out at one level all the time.
