#IAmRemarkable So Are You!

Do you sometimes find yourself hesitant to share your accomplishments even though you can celebrate and promote others with ease? Me too. Yes, despite me being a coach, I have times where I hold myself back.

So when the Women Connect team at work decided to run a hashtag#IAmRemarkable workshop, I signed up immediately.

Being able to speak up and promote your own remarkable achievements is a crucial skillset!

After all, accomplishments don't speak for themselves. If we don't take accountability for our self-promotion, how can we expect others to do it for us?

Through sharing life stories, reflection, and research, we learnt about the importance of being accountable to ourselves and engaging in self-promotion in the workplace.

Self promotion doesn't just instills self confidence but also inspires and encourages others while fostering a supportive environment for people to be authentic and speak up about who they really are.

Self-promotion is essential for our personal growth, well-being, and progression. Celebrating our achievements boosts our self-confidence and motivates us to achieve even more.

Moreover, biases stemming from identity-based stereotypes or language barriers can cloud people's perception of our competence and abilities. So unless you tell them in words backed with facts, people might have a very different idea about you and what you can do or how well you can do it.

Think of it giving other people a chance to get to know you better so they understand how to better work with you. Such open communication can make it a win win for all and can increase creativity and productivity.

It was a heartwarming session for me to get to know my colleagues better. We had to list out all the reasons why we are remarkable and read them out to the class. Though for some who are not used to self promotion, it was a little awkward at first to talk about how remarkable we are. But as everyone gave it their best shot, we found this exercise of remembering who we really are to be strangely therapeutic and brings about so much ease, confidence and laughter to the room.

We found out about who can cook well, who goes to the gym everyday (I salute them!:)), who braved through storms in life, which amongst us are "best moms in the world" to their children... I shamelessly bragged about how I am the teammate people love to work with because I am a team player with a great sense of humour and always happy to step up and be in service to others.

The next time you doubt yourself or feel defeated, grab a pen and paper. Write down three reasons why you are remarkable and read them aloud to yourself. You never know, it might just give you the courage and energy to keep moving forward.

The fact is... hashtag#IAmRemarkable and so are you! 💪✨ hashtag#IAmRemarkable hashtag#SelfPromotionMatters
